Narrative Summary
Shanshan county (41°12′～43°33′N，89°30′～91°54′E) is lcated at the south face of the eat Tianshan mountain and the east side of the Turufan basin, total area 3.98 km2.
Shanshan county is located at the north face of Huoyanshan mountain, which is between the Xiheba and Donheba of Pizhan village. The town has two district the new district and the old one.
The 4 side of the design site is Guangming road in the north, Dongheba in the east, Xiheba in the west, and Dongbazha road in the north, total planning area is 3km2.
To emphasize the concept of Ecological Infrastructure planning, we decided to use group as the basic unit so as to integrate the green space or elements into different groups. Base on the topography and conditions on site we decide to plan a structure of “1 core, 2 residence neighborhoods, 3 belts, and grape planting area”
“1 core” refers to the current business center which is at the cross of Turanjie road and Xincheng road in the middle of the site.
“2 residence neighborhoods” one is to regenerate the current residence in Xibahe area and the other is the reconstruct the village in Dongbahe area.
“3 belts” is the 3 seasonal stream and the corridors alone the stream, which have significant importance in water resource protection, improve urban ecological and environmental conditions, and also offer the space for recreation.
On the basis structure of “1 core, 2 residence neighborhoods, 3 belts, and grape planting area”, we also raised to build comprehensive commercial area, traditional culture neighborhood, urban recreational area, tourism and leisure area, ecological protect area alone the seasonal streams and ecological buffers etc. All the are independent and interconnected with each other, which had formed a active and comprehensive complex.
Based on the feature on site, adopt the new urban design concept, it is important to build sustainable and inhabitable city in oasis area. The plan have 5 specific feature:
1 city and the nature-compact city, paradigm in the arid area.
2 city and local identity-courtyard tradition, inherited and developed the traditional culture of Shanshan county.
3 City and people-use pergola and shades to build local special courtyard space, which offers a comfortable life in the city.
4 city and culture- culture of Muqam, which could show the identitcal music of the Xinjiang region
5, City and water-restored the seasonal streams to show the beautiful scenery of Oasis.
