摘要:
Taihu Township (Taihuzhen)is situated in the Tongzhou District of southeastern Beijing, some 2okm from the city centre of Beijing and just outside of the city's sixth ring road. The town and its larger low-lying territory is located between two large, new densified towns, Tongzhou to the northeast (an important city in China's history, as the terminus of the Grand Canal) and Yizhuang (developing as a high-tech area) to the south-west, which serve as regional service centres. The area pres-ently has a population of approximately fourty thousand registered inhabitants in addition to eighty thousand migrants(floating popula-tion),clustered in fourty-six villages(including Ciqu New Town)and is expected to triple its population inthe coming ten years. The dispersed patchwork of residential, industrial, and agricultural land includes wet-lands and ponds that support fish farming and lotus cultivation.Within the Beijing master planning ideal, the territory was envisioned as one of the'green wedges'between the first and second green rings of the city, however, the tsunami of unstoppable urban development has thwarted such plans and the site will inevitably become an extension of Beijing itself. The introduction in 2oo8 of the high-speed train bisecting the area that connects Beijing-Tianjinwill reinforce this process. The site's Yizhuang station will intersect with an underground metro line to con-nect planned and new urban areas. Travel time to Beijing's Forbidden City from the site's Yizhuang Station will be twenty minutes.
