2023 UIA World Congress of Architects – Pre-Conference Online Workshops
The 2023 UIA World Congress of Architects will be held in Copenhagen, providing a significant platform for global architects and design professionals to exchange ideas. The congress will focus on climate change, with the theme “Sustainable Futures — Leave No One Behind.”
Ahead of the event, a series of online workshops are being held from June 8, 2023, focusing on the theme of “Designing for Climate Adaptation”. The workshops will explore various types of research, knowledge, and actions, seeking ways to enhance climate adaptability in environmental and ecological design through both low-tech and high-tech approaches.
Workshop Series:
01. Adaptation with Indigenous Knowledges

This workshop will focus on design-oriented academic research and climate adaptation strategies using indigenous knowledge. Experts will explore how indigenous knowledge shapes, challenges, and enhances our understanding of climate adaptation in spatial design and construction. They will also discuss the involvement of indigenous and community leaders in climate adaptation concepts and projects.

02. Adaptation with Nature-based Solutions

This workshop will discuss how multi-scale, interconnected climate adaptation and ecological regeneration can be achieved. Experts will explore how people collaborate with, understand, integrate, or imitate nature to adapt to climate change.

03. Adaptation with Behavior Change and Action

This workshop will explore design strategies related to human behavior and how these strategies can help individuals and groups adapt to climate change. The experts will discuss how spatial design can help or change human behavior, values, and collaboration processes, as well as how design practices like collaborative and participatory design can drive positive change.
