The Waller Creek Conservancy will announce today that it has selected four finalist teams to develop plans for concepts on 1.5 miles of parkland and urban space along Waller Creek in downtown Austin.
The teams are CMG and Public Architecture; Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates and Thomas Phifer and Partners; Turenscape and Lake Flato Architects; and Workshop: Ken Smith Landscape Architect, Ten Eyck Landscape Architects and Rogers Marvel Architects.
Each team will receive $100,000 to develop designs for the 28 acres around Waller Creek. The finalists' designs will be presented to the public in September, and a finalist team will be selected by a jury Oct. 16.
The Waller Creek Conservancy is a private nonprofit group that is spearheading the redevelopment along the creek from the University of Texas campus to Lady Bird Lake by raising $60 million. The City of Austin and the conservancy each contributed $400,000 as seed funding for the design competition.
