"Sponge city" is a metaphor used to describe urban areas capable of absorbing water during rainy seasons and releasing it during dry periods.
"It's a water-resilient city," simplifies Yu in an interview with PÚBLICO, in the gardens of the Crystal Palace, where he was in May to participate in a congress organized by the National Green Roof Association (ANCV).
The concept he has formulated, based on his experience growing up as the son of farmers in a mountainous region of China and his studies at Harvard, involves rethinking how we build and manage the urban water cycle.
