Valdivia Wetland City Seminar will invite Kongjian Yu, the renowned architect and pioneer of the "Sponge City" concept. The seminar is jointly organized by the Municipality of Valdivia, the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Senator Alfonso de Urresti, with the collaboration of the Río Cruces Wetland Center and the Center for Sustainable Urban Development. Valdivia is striving to obtain the "Wetland City" accreditation granted by the Ramsar Convention, which not only represents international recognition for the city and its wetlands but also brings new challenges and opportunities for the planning and management of these important ecosystems.
Although the ecological benefits of wetlands have been widely supported and recognized by scientific evidence, their economic value and local impact have been less discussed. This seminar will bring together representatives from the public, private, and social sectors to explore new opportunities and challenges for sustainable development and the economy in Valdivia.
In addition to Kongjian Yu's presentation, Oscar Guevara, the Executive Director of the Climate Action and Positive Biodiversity Management Department at CAF, will also deliver a keynote report. The event will conclude with a roundtable discussion moderated by Javiera Maira, Director of the Municipal Planning Secretariat of Valdivia.
