Abstract:
The local authority's practice was to realign and channel the river with concrete embankments. This common engineering solution is ecologically destructive to the inter-tidal zones and river morphology;and also culturally and historically insensitive to local traditions that the river symbolizes to the local inhabitants.Additionally, this type of practice isan economically irresponsible way to usevaluable public funds, due to its high costs relative to other public projects.
