Project Profile

1. Project Statement

The site of the Golden Beach is located at the mouth of a small stream on the beach of the city Qinghuang Dao, a famously scenic city in Northern China. The design must accommodate the various and sometimes conflicting demands for this site, including wetland protection, bird watching, and the recreational use of the beach.

2. Design Strategy

The natural process of the tides, which had created interesting wetland affects on the shallow beach, inspired the overall landscape design. A bird arboretum was also included in the program, thereby integrating education and actual bird watching on the beach and in the wetland.

The architectural design strives to catch the summer breeze from the ocean, and was formally inspired by the fishing boats anchoring on the beach.
