1. Project Statement
The ecological environment of the Yongning River is increasingly destroyed. The scheme adopts the concept of “make friends with water” by purifying the river of Yongning River through a riverside green belt with purification function, thus it becomes the green lung of the Yongning River and restores the water quality of the river and riverside habitat. At the same time, it provides a place for gathering, leisure and fitness for people live in the neighborhood.
2. Objective and Strategy
The project aims to create a model of modern urban ecological leisure riverside park, with a melding of wetland conservation, water purification and low carbon energy conservation. The three landscape belts form the main structure of the site, which are the terraced land belt, the inland river purification belt and the wetland conservation belt.
3. Design Strategy
1) Green Isolation Zone
A green isolation belt is set up along the south side of the municipal road in the site, effectively blocking the noise pollution caused by the north side of the motor vehicle lane through planting dense forests. There are public service facilities such as primary and secondary entrance squares, bus stops, temporary parking spaces for motor vehicles, and parking lots.
2) Terraced Terrace Field Belt
The terraced terrace belt is constructed with staggered terraces as the texture, resolving the internal height difference of the site. The terraced terrace belt mainly consists of embankment roads, terrace planting, squares, etc. There are embankment roads, bicycle rental points, and non motorized vehicle parking spaces. The embankment top road meets the flood control requirements of a 50 year return period, as well as the requirements for non motorized and pedestrian traffic, becoming a part of the urban slow traffic system; On the terrace, the local fruit trees planted in Huangyan are used as the base, decorated with colored leaf vegetation, forming a unique terrace landscape layer; Different levels of squares are set up along the embankment top road to provide leisure, activity, and gathering places for the surrounding population.
3) River Purification Zone
The inland river purification zone is located in the middle of the site, which is a river water purification zone. The river water is collected by windmills, purified by aquatic plants, and used for greening and irrigation in the park. The windmill lifts the water from the Yongning River into the inner river. The water purification zone of the inner river is divided by a bridge to form five independent inner rivers. Each section is purified by aquatic plants, and the purified river water meets the requirements for greening in the park. The waterfront hiking trail connecting the purification zone of the inland river provides people with recreational experiences such as walking, hydrophilicity, and rest.
4) Wetland Conservation Belt
The native vegetation protection zone on the side near the Yongning River preserves the existing native wetland vegetation and repairs the damaged areas to provide habitats for organisms and quiet river viewing and recreational spaces for tourists, while meeting the flood control requirements of every 20 years.
Taizhou Jiangbei Park is an important organic component of the urban green corridor. It is a modern urban ecological leisure riverside public green space with themes of wetland conservation, water purification, and low-carbon energy conservation. After two years of construction, the first phase of the park opened in 2015 and has now become an excellent place for local leisure and recreation.
