Project Profile

1. Project Statement

The project is located in the ancient village of Yantian Xunjiansi in Wuyuan, Wangshan. The Xunjiansi is distributed in the shape of a lotus leaf, with houses built in the distinctive Huizhou architectural style. A river flows through the village from east to west, and the Huirao Ancient Road runs through the village. Dozens of interconnected Huizhou-style houses form a concentrated settlement. On the western side of the village, there are over a dozen camphor trees that are over 300 years old, while the eastern and western water outlets are adorned with well-preserved ancient bridges from the Ming Dynasty. It is a perfect blend of Huizhou Fengshui culture and Confucian culture.

2. Objective and Challenge

In front of the rooms at "Wenzhangge," there is a hidden ancient camphor tree nestled within the grove of water outlets by the inspection hall. With its roots deeply embedded in the rocks by the water's edge, the trunk of this camphor tree, although withered, is regarded as the "second-best camphor tree in the world." The house faces this extraordinary camphor tree, and the rooms are nestled amidst its lush branches and leaves, emitting a delightful fragrance. Hence, it is named "Wenzhangge."

3. Design Strategy

Strategy 1: Extract the essence of space and integrate new features to interpret a new lifestyle in the Huizhou architectural style. The elegant common area on the ground floor faces the ancient camphor tree and the stream. Sitting by the bay window, sipping a cup of tea, one can experience the unique tranquility and far-reaching beauty of Wuyuan.

Strategy 2: Create quiet and private indoor spaces. "Wenzhangge" consists of two floors, with a total of ten suites. The first floor has two standard rooms (1.2m+1.2m), two king rooms (1.8m+designer bathtub), while the second floor features four loft-style family rooms (1.8m+1.5m) and a super balcony landscape suite for mother and child (1.7m+1.0m), with two beds. All nine guest rooms have access to the shared kitchen and living room tea house. Lastly, there is a unique landscape mother and child suite with a private courtyard (1.7m+1.0m), offering a serene and private choice.

4. Conclusion

Here, those with hometowns return to their roots, and those without hometowns find paradise.
