Project Profile

1. Project Statement

The project is located in the ancient village of Xunjiansi in Wuyuan, Wangshan. The Xunjiansi is distributed in the shape of a lotus leaf, and the houses are built in the distinctive Huizhou architectural style. A river flows through the village from east to west, while the Huirao Ancient Road runs through the village. Dozens of interconnected Huizhou-style houses form a concentrated settlement. On the western side of the village, there are over a dozen camphor trees that are over 300 years old. The ancient bridges from the Ming Dynasty on the eastern and western water outlets are well-preserved, showcasing a perfect blend of Huizhou Fengshui culture and Confucian culture.

2. Objective and Challenge

Banguiju, adjacent to the Wangshan Lifestyle Hall, is a modern two-story brick-built Huizhou-style house. It is named after the osmanthus tree that accompanies the house. Through reconstruction and restoration, it aims to provide a cozy and comfortable poetic living experience for residents.

3. Design Strategy

Strategy 1: Based on the original structural conditions and additional structural loads from new functions, integrate the village fabric, create a sense of spatial scale, and evoke local memories.

Strategy 2: Reconstruction and restoration while preserving memories and culture. Use design techniques to add distinctive features while retaining the Huizhou-style structure. Preserve the original building scale and wooden structure, introduce large openings, and reorganize the spatial layout. The interior consists of individual loft-style family suites (1.8m+1.5m) with spacious outdoor terraces, allowing for scenic views and a cool breeze through opened doors and windows.

4. Conclusion

The entire building is immersed in the fragrant aroma of osmanthus, complementing the small bridge and flowing water in front of the house, creating a delightful ambiance.
