Project Profile

1. Project Statement

The project is located in Xunjiansi, Wangshan. The Xunjiansi is distributed in the shape of a lotus leaf, and the houses are all Huizhou-style architecture. The river flows through the village from east to west, and the Huirao Ancient Road runs through the village. Dozens of Huizhou-style houses are connected together. There are over a dozen ancient camphor trees over 300 years old growing near the west and east water outlets. Two well-preserved ancient bridges from the Ming Dynasty stand on the west and east sides of the village, creating a perfect combination of Huizhou Fengshui culture and Confucian culture.

2. Objective and Challenge

On the northeast side of Huixiu Bridge, there is a two-story Huizhou-style residential building called "Dengxianju," which implies "leisurely understanding the east wind"by Zhuxi. The exquisitely designed and transformed boutique homestay stands by the water's edge, forming a picturesque rural scene together with the ancient trees, streams, and ducks in front of the gate.

3. Design Strategy

Strategy 1: Incorporate modern design techniques and new lifestyles while preserving the unique features and wooden structure of the building. Add vertical supports in specific areas and reinforce the walls with new opening forms.

Strategy 2: Preserve memories and culture. Stand by the river, facing the important village scenery. Connect the open large windows to create a harmonious connection between nature and comfortable indoor spaces.

4. Conclusion

Every urban dweller who chooses to settle here can find their own "poetry and distant lands."
