1. Project Statement
Li Ning Sports Park is located on the east side of the Liaojiagou Natural Scenery Zone, adjacent to Yangzhou CBD. It is designed to be a new, dynamic sports park serving the future residents of the new city. The design emphasizes a joyful, low-carbon concept, adhering to eco-friendly principles to create a sustainable, recyclable, green, energy-saving, and modern sports park as a model for the new era.
2. Objective and Challenge
The Central Business District (CBD) is the soul of a central city, encompassing regional commerce, finance, information, culture, exhibitions, and office functions. White-collar workers in this area pursue efficient, stylish, and modern lifestyles, but health remains a concern. Balancing work and life, creating an open and active outdoor space to attract white-collar workers, and utilizing modern technology to meet basic outdoor sports needs are the primary goals and challenges of this design.
3. Design Strategy
Green Ecological Strategy:
(1) Sports Spaces Under the Canopy
The design uses broad-leaved and shade trees to create a green canopy over the sports fields, providing a cooling effect and creating a comfortable microclimate. This allows people to enjoy exercise in the shade, promoting physical and mental health while offering a pleasant sensory experience.
(2) Rainwater Collection, Purification, and Utilization
The design includes rainwater collection facilities and strategically arranges the surrounding roads and site to manage rainwater runoff. Roads, sports fields, and rain gardens are interconnected, with rain gardens filtering and creatively integrating building rooftops for water purification. The purified water flows into a stable lake area and is reused for landscape water systems, irrigation, and misting air conditioning systems.
(3) Recycling Strategy
To minimize soil transport, the design repurposes site waste soil to create varied topography. Covering the waste soil with planting soil improves planting conditions and enhances the landscape. Solar energy is harnessed with photovoltaic facilities on bike sheds and landscape structures to generate energy for the landscape lighting system, achieving green energy recycling.
Cultural Feature Strategy: Paper Cutting
Yangzhou paper cutting, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a vibrant symbol of Yangzhou. The design integrates landscape and architectural forms to reflect paper cutting art, blending seamlessly into the environment.
Functional Feature Strategy: New Vitality, New Spaces, New Colors
The sports park design breaks away from traditional models by incorporating trendy sports like BMX, parkour, skateboarding, CBD running, and orienteering, meeting modern people's psychological and usage needs. Emphasizing participation and interaction, it becomes a hub for the most popular and enduring urban youth sports.
4. Conclusion
Upon completion, Yangzhou Li Ning Sports Park will truly be a low-carbon, eco-friendly, rainwater-managed, pleasant microclimate, sustainable, and recyclable vibrant park. It will promote local sports activities, encourage public fitness, and foster a healthy CBD lifestyle. Additionally, the park's completion will accelerate the integration of Guangling and Jiangdu districts. "With Liaojiagou Waterfront as the axis and Liaojiagou Central Urban Park as the focal point, the completion of Li Ning Sports Park will form an ecological sports cluster in the eastern part of the city."
