Project Profile

1. Project Statement

Lecun Steel World, formerly known as the Lecun Steel Market, is transitioning from being China’s largest steel trading hub to a regional headquarters for global steel companies. The new site is near the Foshan First Ring Road and was previously farmland, fish ponds, and banana groves. While the steel market's development provides more space, it also risks erasing the traditional Lingnan rural landscape.

2. Design Strategy

The design team was asked to create a landscape for the new Lecun Steel World Marketing Center. The goal was to blend the industrial feel of the steel market with the traditional Lingnan rural style. The design keeps the fish ponds and existing trees, and adds typical Lingnan plants like banana groves in the plaza, bald cypress in the water, bamboo on the west side, and a lotus pond at the entrance. These familiar elements create a warm and inviting space. The materials used include local steel, which is featured in rusted iron planters, channel steel flooring, and walls inspired by steel profiles.
