Project Profile

An Urban Oasis Protecting an Ancient Archeological Site: Xi’an Yannan Park

The Xi’an Yannan Ecological Park Skywalk is located in the bustling southern part of Xi’an, surrounded by large residential communities, educational and healthcare facilities, commercial centers, and metro stations. As a key public infrastructure in a densely populated area, the park connects with major urban zones including the Qujiang New District, the High-Tech Industrial Zone, the Chang’an cultural and academic district, and the Electronic City. Adjacent to the planned district government headquarters, the skywalk serves local residents while extending its influence across the city. Designed as a pedestrian-oriented structure, the skywalk acts as an “urban balcony” that weaves through the park, linking various landscape zones: the floral wetland viewing area, the terrace-valley sports zone, the ecological conservation zone, and the public service area. It supports a rich mix of activities—ecological education, leisure walking, cultural experiences, and nature immersion.

The bridge spans 1,430 meters with a 3-meter-wide clear pedestrian path in standard sections. The superstructure consists of 300mm × 400mm square steel frame beams, while the substructure is supported by 250mm × 400mm rectangular steel piers and 400mm-diameter bored pile foundations.

The walkway surface features a 2,900mm-wide profiled steel deck topped with a 130mm-thick layer of exposed concrete. Railings on both sides stand 1,050mm tall and are constructed from 5mm-thick, 40mm-wide vertical flat steel bars, finished in white fluorocarbon paint. The handrails are made from natural bamboo-wood (50mm × 80mm), and stainless-steel signage plates (750mm × 167mm) are installed at key access points and nodes.

By day, the skywalk serves as a tranquil space for commuters and residents to rest and exercise. By night, it offers a captivating experience—immersed in nature with sweeping views of the city’s glittering skyline.
