Located in Hedong District of Tianjin, Qiaoyuan Park is bounded by Tianshan Road to the east, Panshan Road to the south, Kunlun Road to the west, and Weiguo Road to the north, backed by the Weiguo Road Interchange. The project takes the concept of the bridge as a central design motif—considering its psychological, architectural, and cultural dimensions, and its resonance with Tianjin’s identity—to create a unique "Bridge Park" that reflects local culture.
A bridge is a structure of connection—a way for people to traverse space and time, linking two places via human-made paths. The form and meaning of bridges evolve with technology. The central concept of the Qiaoyuan Skywalk draws inspiration from movable spatial steel bridges, such as Tianjin’s iconic Jiefang Bridge. The steel frame defines spatial openness and hints at the potential for transformation and folding space, making it a medium-scale pedestrian bridge. The skywalk is positioned along the park’s main entrance axis, linking the primary pedestrian entry plaza to a key exhibition building—the Bridge Culture Exhibition Center. This axis also serves as a cultural timeline for park visitors. The design embodies Tianjin’s urban and waterfront character through its bridge-themed landscape, integrating spatial planning with human behavior and experiential design, highlighting the relationship between people and environment in the context of urbanization.
The park traces Tianjin’s bridge history—from traditional wooden floating bridges, to beam bridges of steel, wood, or stone, to modern steel arch and suspension bridges. This historical evolution is expressed through diverse pedestrian bridges distributed across the park.
Among them, the wooden bridge is a small-scale structure measuring approximately 20.8 meters in total length with a standard span of 3 meters and a width of 3 meters. It was designed with a load capacity of 3.5 kN/m². The superstructure uses reinforced concrete beam frames, supported by reinforced concrete columns on spread foundations.
