Located within the venue of the 4th Hebei (Handan) Garden Expo, the design draws inspiration from traditional Chinese agricultural forms such as terraced fields and pond systems, combining them with scientific ecological purification techniques. Recycled urban greywater is pumped to the hilltop, where it is purified through layered vegetation on the terraces.
“Mengze Feihong” is a graceful white boardwalk-style bridge. Since the central part of the park is separated by the Qin River, Xihu Reservoir, and a spillway, the project builds a multifunctional bridge approximately 1.5 kilometers long, sweeping along the northern edge of the reservoir. This bridge forms a complete elevated traffic loop within the park. Its flowing lines resemble a rainbow crossing between the lake and the habitat island, becoming a visual highlight on the northern side of the Xihu Reservoir and serving as a primary connector across the water.
The width of the bridge accommodates both pedestrians and electric shuttle vehicles. A spatial layout of parallel and intersecting paths was adopted. The deck is widened at the three main entrances to allow both pedestrian and vehicular access. Then, pedestrian zones are separated and designed with dual-level walkways, responding to the bridge’s form and the changing landscape. The upper level offers panoramic lake views, while the lower level provides a closer, immersive experience for bird-watching and waterfront interaction, transforming the bridge into a unique and dynamic aerial journey. The facade design reflects the curvature of the bridge, with a rhythmic pattern of external aluminum panels and gradually shifting railings. While maintaining structural unity, the visual effect makes the bridge appear lighter and as if it is floating on water. Dynamic lighting further enhances the elegant form, rendering the Mengze Feihong Bridge dreamlike and captivating at night.
