The project is located in Suining County, Xuzhou City. Compared to other regions in Jiangsu Province, Suining has lagged behind in urbanization. However, in recent years, driven by government efforts, significant success has been achieved in attracting investments, propelling the city into a rapid development phase. Yet, the original pedestrian spaces and urban scale face challenges. The new administrative center and residential areas have been constructed separately from the old town, creating difficulties in connectivity between communities. While water systems, green spaces, and plazas have been successively completed, natural water channels and wide, high-speed roads hinder public access to these green areas.
Suining Liuyun Long Sleeve Skywalk integrates complex urban functions and spatial structures through simple yet elegant municipal elements. Spanning Xuning Road in Suining County, Jiangsu, the bridge crosses the city's expressway and multiple water systems, connecting the central plaza of the county with the forest park on the opposite side of the road. The main bridge is 635m long, with a total construction length of 869m and an area of 2,700m². Four auxiliary bridges total 242m in length, with deck widths ranging from 2.5 to 9m and slopes between 0.4% and 12.6%. The bridge ensures a minimum clearance of 4.5m above the road surface.
Initially built to strengthen the connection between Hehe Plaza and Forest Plaza, the Liuyun Water-Sleeve Bridge reunites the two major urban open spaces divided by the high-speed Xuning Road, avoiding conflicts between vehicular and pedestrian flows while ensuring safe crossings. Beyond meeting functional requirements, the design centers on the theme of "water," drawing inspiration from the smooth, graceful curves of flowing dance sleeves. The bridge undulates elegantly in three-dimensional space, embodying the beauty of drifting clouds and flowing water. Additionally, meticulous lighting design allows this "water-sleeve" to glide freely above the city's plazas, water bodies, and woodlands. The Suining Liuyun Long Sleeve Skywalk exemplifies the perfect integration of urban landscape functionality and artistic form.
