CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 8, 2016 – The American Academy of Arts and Sciences has inducted its newest class of members. One of the nation's oldest learned societies and independent research centers, the Academy includes among this year's new members prominent scientists, artists, literary figures, and leaders of academic, business, philanthropic, and cultural institutions from across the United States and around the world.
Members of the 2016 class include winners of the Fields Medal, the Wolf Prize, the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, the Grammy Award, and MacArthur, Guggenheim, and Fulbright Fellowships.
The three-day event began with a celebration of the arts and humanities, featuring readings and presentations by poets Eavan Boland and Yusef Komunyakaa; landscape architect Kongjian Yu; essayist Diane Ackerman; curator Mikhail Piotrovskiy; violist Kim Kashkashian; and conductor JoAnn Falletta.
