Kongjian Yu Delivered Keynote Speech at BIAD Creative Forum: Climate Design and Deep Form

Yu Kongjian is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Distinguished Professor under the Ministry of Education’s Changjiang Scholars Program, and the Dean of the College of Architecture and Landscape at Peking University. He is also the Chief Designer at Turenscape. Yu proposed a method for national spatial planning based on ecological security patterns, integrating traditional wisdom with modern technology. He developed a holistic methodology for constructing ecological infrastructure and sponge cities to address climate change and resolve ecological and environmental issues.

His approach has been implemented in over 250 cities in China and has been widely promoted internationally. He has received numerous prestigious international awards, including 16 ASLA Awards and 7 WAF Awards. In addition, he has earned top honors in his field, such as the U.S. National Design Award, the Oberlander Prize, and the Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe Award, which is regarded as the lifetime achievement award in the field of landscape architecture. He holds PhDs and honorary doctorates from internationally renowned universities such as Harvard University and the University of Rome.
